Basic FAQs

What is the average time needed to train a dog?

The training time using an Innotek dog collar varies with each dog and each trainer. It will depend on what you are trying to train the dog to do, the trainers skill, and the type of dog being trained.  If you are using an underground dog fence system, then the selected perimiter for your fencing system must be taken into consideration.  You must allow the dog a few extra training sessions to compensate for a more complex underground dog fence border. The dog learns in small stages, his understanding is tested at each stage. On an average it takes 10 minutes twice a day for 2 weeks to train your dog. Please refer to your specific training video.

Will the correction harm my dog?

NO. The mild correction that your dog feels from his/her Innotek dog collar, PetSafe or SportDog collar, is designed to be undesirable so your dog will avoid it, yet is totally harmless and humane.  It is comparable to a static shock a human will feel from walking on a carpet.

What is the difference between water-resistant and waterproof?

-A water-resistant PetSafe, SportDog or Innotek dog collar receiver can be worn in the rain, snow or other inclement weather. However it would be damaged if it is submerged in water.

-A waterproof PetSafe, SportDog or Innotek dog collar receiver can be worn when bathing or swimming. Being submerged in water will not harm the collar receiver.

How long do the batteries last?

Battery life varies greatly depending on the type of battery, how you use and maintain the product, as well as the operating temperatures. Please feel free to contact us at info@alphapetsupplies.com with any questions.

How old should my dog be before using an electronic device?

We recommend that the dog be at least 6 months old.

Why can't I leave the PetSafe, SportDog or Innotek dog collar receiver on my dog for more than 12 hours?

Any collar receiver worn for extended periods can cause a condition similar to bedsores, known as Pressure Necrosis.

What is a In-ground or Underground Dog Fence system?

There are 3 parts to a Underground Dog Fence system:

1. The Transmitter: This plugs into a standard outlet and emits a radio signal.

2. The Wire: Waterproof wire that you bury and connect to the transmitter that makes a boundary to contain your dog.

3. The Collar Receiver: The receiver is worn on your dog’s collar. The transmitter emits a radio signal that travels through the wire. The receiver on your dog’s collar picks up the radio signal and alerts the dog as he nears the boundary (buried wire). If the dog continues toward the boundary wire, he will receive a correction from the radio signal.

Does the wire have to be buried?

No, the underground dog fence system will operate properly above ground although Innotek® recommends that the wire be buried approximately 3 inches to prevent damage to the wire.

Can I contain more than one dog?

Yes, additional PetSafe, SportDog and Innotek dog collar receivers can be purchased separately.

I want to contain my dog in the yard but would also like to control my dog on walks or at the park. Do you have a product that fits my needs?

Yes, a Contain N Train Systems will fit your needs. Alpha Pet Supplies sells a selection of systems that come with a hand held transmitter that communicates with the same collar receiver that your dog wears for containment.

Do you have a product that will keep my dog off of my couch or away from an area inside my house?

Yes. They are called Barrier systems, and are designed for this purpose.
